LABOUR MANAGEMENT IN INDIAN INDUSTRY

An attempt has been made to highlight the labour management relations in Indian Industry with reference to Sugar Industry. In this book problem and major issues concerning the two parties, namely, Labour and Management, which have always been centering round the subject, have been discussed. Necessary measures to unsolved problems, have also been given.
This book is divided into eight chapters; the first chapter deals with the employer-employee relations; the Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Act, 1946 and the importance of Sugar Industry in Indian economy; the second chapter examines the system of promotions, its various schemes, types, purposes policies and procedures practiced in the mills; the third chapter is devoted to the demotions: Its causes and impact upon the efficiency of the workmen; the fourth chapter explains the purposed transfer of the employees, and its impact on the workers' efficiency. It also underlines transfer policies and procedures for efficient running of an organization; the fifth chapter includes separation of the employees; i.e., resignation, discharge and dismissal, suspension and retrenchment and lay-offs, the sixth and seventh chapters deal with the problems of absenteeism and labour turnover of the employees, finally the last chapter gives conclusions and suggestions.
