A service sector, particularly the transport industry is highly labour-intensive by its very nature. The survival and prosperity of a passenger road transport organization depends upon the quality of service rendered by it. Human resources play a pivotal role in the functioning of a passenger road transport organization. There are very few works on human factor in Transport Corporations. Hence, an attempt has been made to bring out a book on Human Resource Management in Transport Corporations. The study is presented in six chapters. Chapter I discusses the importance of Human Resource Management, Methodology, Genesis of APSRTC. Employment and Training aspects are presented in Chapter II. Chapter III analyses Wages and Fringe benefits, Unionism, collective bargaining, industrial disputes etc. are dealt with in Chapter IV. Operation efficiency is examined in Chapter V. Chapter VI presents the findings and offers suggestions for improvement. This book would be useful for policy-makers, employees of APSRTC, teachers and students in the areas of Transport Management and Human Resource Management.
