This study attempts at the examination of various dimensions of accountability of public enterprises in India in general and Punjab state in particular and evaluation of the existing methods of enforcing accountability. Of the four major channels of exercising control over public enterprises, viz., executive, legislative, judicial and financial, this study confines to the legislative and executive sphere. Within the legislative mechanism of control namely questions, debates and the Legislative Committee on Public Undertakings, specifically set up to ensure the goal-oriented performance of public enterprises, the focus in this volume has been particularly on the committee on Public Undertakings.
