Geography stands in the centre of natural sciences and social sciences. It makes use of many disciplines in its definitions. The present book Encyclopedic Dictionary of Geography includes those terms which are in common usage. While describing the terms the emphasis has been made on factual information rather than on a simple definition. Throughout the process of compilation and editing the volumes, the main effort was to make the dictionary serve as a ready reference manual. The entries have been written in a clear, lucid and explanatory style to provide both straight forward definitions and invaluable background information. This approach, combined with an extensive cross-reference system, enables the reader to place each entry into a broader scientific context. At certain places, the diagrams have been included wherever the meaning of a word can be best understood by means of a diagram. At places formulae and statistics have been given for better illustration. Though it is a dictionary of geography, yet certain geological terms have been included which a student of geography is likely to come across. The main entries included in this dictionary come from oceanography, weather and climate, surveying and cartography, earth, economic and human geography, bio-geography, ecology and ecosystems.
This encyclopedic dictionary is packed with enormous conceptual and factual knowledge which shall be useful for the teachers, students, academicians, policy makers and for those who are interested in geography and earth sciences.
