GLIMPSES OF HISTORY OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR
JYOTEESHWAR PATHIK
Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh are three diverse cultural entities of the state, which had been inter-woven with common ethos of the historical past. Each of the three has witnessed different trials and tribulations of history in their own spheres but still they were not isolated from each other. While Kalhan's Rajtarangani gives an authentic account of the history of Kashmir, some others have discussed historical influence from outside on he Kashmir history. On the other hand, Jammu and Ladakh lack in authentic historical accounts. It was only in recent years that attempts have been made to dig their historical past whereas quest for historical research of Ladakh started in the latter half of the nineteenth century, in case of Jammu serious efforts started only in the latter half of the twentieth century and the process continues. The book gives a brief account of the historical developments in all the three regions of state and their inter-relationship. It also throws light on incidents of the recent past which had been most controversial and crucial part of the history of the state.
