MUSLIMS IN INDIA
S.N.SINGH
Muslims constitute the second largest group of people after the Hindus. Their participation in the socio-economic as well as political process is considered of vital importance. Since the post-independence, India opted for a planned approach for growth and development encompassing all sectors of the populace it is mater of concern as to how far the Muslims have benefited from the state intervention in the growth process. The purposed book makes an attempt to look into the different segments of this problem. This theme is discussed under four broad parts- Introduction, Employment Scenario, Socio-Economic Status and General. The papers included are the contributions of eminent people belonging to different vocations, viz. Academics, administration, who have presented their concern vividly. Some of us have been arguing for quite sometime now that though there may be general backwardness but the Muslims as a class have been left out for one reason or the other from the main stream. In view of this we have tried to take up the issue for discussion and this volume is a result of that. It is hoped that this would generate further debate for a better tomorrow.

BRITISH ADMINISTRATION IN INDIA
UPASANA SINGH
During a fairly long range of British rule in our sub- continent, the administrative machinery was geared up from time to time, the main consideration being the economic sources mixed with several political considerations which had deep links with regional cooperation. Several such measures were undertaken, of course with possible success, to have new innovations in the land-revenue system in the Ceded and Conquered Provinces during the first three decades of nineteenth century. In fact these modifications in the existing system greatly enhanced the financial position of the East India Company's government at a time when the policy of her expansion towards North-Western region entailed heavy expenses along with the human energy and planning at higher level. I have consulted the archival and non-archival sources along with the findings of noted historians on economic history. The book would be useful for teachers, researchers and students engaged in deep study of this crucial period in our history.
