Syama Prasad Mookerje, the founder of Jana Sangh, was the most brilliant student of the Calcutta University and was elected its Vice-Chancellor at a very young age. As an illustrious son of Asutosh Mookerjee, he undertook several reforms in the field of education and the university gained a high academic standard during his tenure. He was a very fine orator and contributed much in the Bengal Legislature as well as in the Parliament. As a Minister in Bengal and in the central government, he showed his integrity and organising capacity.
