PAKISTAN JINNAH TO THE PRESENT DAY
R. MAJUMDAR
The land where flourished the world famous civilization some five thousand years ago-the Indus Valley Civilization. 'Pakistan' emerged on the political map of the world as a sovereign nation state on 14 August 1945. Originally harbouring the idea of making a well structured democratic nation, governed on the lines of Islamic laws, the concept of Pakistan was materialized under an Act of British Parliament after a prolonged struggle and concerted efforts of Muslim League and Mohammed Ali Jinnah.

Soon after its birth Jinnah's dream of a progressive Muslim society and nation proved mere uptopia. The frequent and active participation of military in the polity of Pakistan has given a strange shape to it.

The present work in two volumes is a faithful account of Pakistan's politicosocial developments. Recounting the rise and fall of different governments, led by different stalwarts, these volumes present a true political history of Pakistan; thus narration of a complex and distorted political culture which is neither Islamic nor modern democratic.

ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM
MOHAMMAD MOHADDESSIN
Islamic Fundamentalism is an affirmation of the wisdom of the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad. It describes, however, the dire effects of fundamentalism fed by the frenzy of the ayatollahs of Iran, beginning with Khomeini. "Khomeini's reactionary ideology is based upon ignorance and repression. When struck with the rays of awareness, it melts like snow. the struggle in Iran is between a reactionary distortion of Islam and an Islam that advocates awareness and freedom. in this confrontation, democratic and liberating Islam will doubtless triumph." -Massoud Rajavi, The Iranian Resistanc's Leader (called by Khomeini has "greatest enemy") "The author takes you inside the pillars of Khomeini's rule, inside the 'whys' and 'ways of the export of Islamic fundamentalism, inside the terrorist networks. It is a carefully footnoted book, and a valuable one that can be used well by scholars of the situation and by people who simply want to know more about one of the most important syndromes of our times. I know of no other study like it in terms of depth and interpretation." -from the foreword by Georgie Anne Geyer Nationally Syndicated Columnist

GLIMPSES OF MUSLIM EDUCATION IN INDIA
SHAN MOHAMMAD
Glimpses of Muslim Education in India trace the growth and development of modern education among the Muslim community of the sub-continent. In moulding ideas of his conservative community from medievalism to modernism Sir Syed had played a vital role. Had he not been there, Muslims would have stayed in the medieval age even today. The MAO College founded by him was the nucleus for disseminating western education among the Muslims. The College was raised to the status of the University in 1920. Its Convocation Addresses are revealing and one can study plans of their education since the time of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan who may right, be called a pioneer in a difficult age.

MUSLIM RULE IN KASHMIR (1554 A.D. TO 1586 A.D.)
NIZAM-UD-DIN-WANI
Rule of the Chaks in Kashmir from 1554 to 1586 A.D., though described by various authors in their books, has not received the attention it really deserved. The gap lift by the various historians has been abridged in the present book after a deep investigation and study by the author. The book contains a detailed description about the rise of Chaks and gives an account of their consolidation. Interestingly territory fixed by Ghazi Shah remained unchanged under his successors. Reign of Yusuf Shah has been covered widely. It was during his reign that the most hated tax of Jaziya was abolished. His submission to the Moughals and his end is very interesting. Main rival king of Chak was Akbar. Atlast the Moaghal emperors became very cruel to these Chaks because there were many complaints about them. Moughal rulers ordered to kill them at sight. To save themselves, the Chaks became Gulbans. Culture of Kashmir saw a sharp rise and also declined during the reign of Chak. Their love for music was also very famous. The book must be read with interest so that one can understand the Chaks very well. The author has taken lot of pains in bringing to light the reign of Chak.
