Since Independence, the Government of India's policies for Women's Development have evolved in emphasis, from an initial welfare oriented approach to the current focus on development and empowerment. Gender Disparity: Manifestations, Causes and Implications is aimed, as it is evident from the title, at studying different dimensions of gender bias, their causes and implications. The issue of gender differences has recently drawn the attention of the world because of the World Bank, the IMF, the ADB and other international development organizations have given much importance to this issue realizing that the uniform development of any country or region is not possible (i) as long as hardship of women, compared to the men, in the society persists; and (ii) without giving equal power to women. If we want to reduce exploitation of women in the world then it is necessary to know the extent and the form of such exploitation. The form and extent may be different for different countries.
